Abstract

The feeling of the general atmosphere of the CityCamp 2025 event hosted by Civic Tech Atlanta was examined and analyzed to find ways in which it could be improved upon in the future, and especially given the word of a former attendee and organizer, it is clear that motivation for the event was somewhat lackluster and organization could benefit the event in the future. The event was promoted primarily through word of mouth, which led to many people not knowing about or understanding the full scope of the event. In the few places it was advertised, it was marketed as an “un-conference” decided to promote collaboration and foster change in the community, with an agenda organized by the attendees themselves. This would invariably create a sense of less-than-ideal organization, since the attendees don’t have the clearest idea as to what the event would be about beforehand. The lengthy emails sent out for information to attendees after registration may have also been deterring for many, and spurred a lack of motivation for the event. Through extensive interviews conducted on one attendee of the event and one significant organizer of the event, it is clear that the problems mentioned are things that could be remedied in the future through better promotion and organization of the event, as well as better, shorter forms of communication for boosting motivation, ensuring the event creates and fosters the community it seeks to create to the best of its ability.
